# About AI Assistant

This article describes the role of the AI Assistant and typical use cases. The AI Assistant carries out a wide range of tasks through conversation, drawing on the resources registered in the workspace.

## Ask questions about your workspace

The AI Assistant helps you understand your workspace in ways such as the following.

* Reviewing the contents of specifications and designs
* Asking about the structure and implementation of the codebase
* Pulling key points together across related documents

For details, see [Chat](/ai-assistant/chat.md).

## Draft documents

Through a conversation with the AI Assistant, you can draft and refine documents such as the following.

* Feature specifications
* Requirements summaries
* User stories
* Test cases
* Help pages

## When to use the AI Assistant vs. workflows

In addition to the AI Assistant, you can also use AI agents in Workflows. A common pattern is to first work with the AI Assistant in a conversational way to understand your workspace and explore tasks and deliverables, and then turn the tasks whose steps and direction have stabilized into a workflow.

For details, see [About Workflow](/workflow/workflow-overview.md).

### AI Assistant

* Deepen your understanding of your workspace
* Shape the picture of the deliverables

### Workflow

* Run repeated work with the same quality and the same steps

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.genesis.autify.com/ai-assistant/ai-assistant-overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
